General Studies
A/AS Syllabus Content :
Culture, Morality, Arts and Humanities, Science, Mathematics and Technology, Society, Politics and the Economy.
Teaching Style / Methods of Study :
During each of the two years, you will attend lessons with six different teachers who focus on particular areas of the specification. There is a mixture of discussion and study of past examination questions.
Attraction and value of subject :
- The General Studies course is wide-ranging and is of general interest.
- It gives students specialising in scientific subjects the opportunity to discuss and examine aspects of the Arts and Humanities.
- It gives students specialising in Arts and Humanities subjects the chance to maintain and develop their scientific and mathematical skills.
Application of subject beyond school :
- An A level in General Studies is a useful extra qualification to offer to Universities to which you are applying and is frequently included in conditional offers from universities.
- It also shows to prospective employers that you have the capacity to deal with issues outside your own specialist area.
