Using the Library
Organisation
Fiction books are arranged in alphabetical order of the author’s surname
Information resources follow the Dewey Decimal System. There are posters to help with this system but you can also ask the Librarian and Pupil Librarians.
- Borrowing resources
You may borrow up to 5 resources at any one time including DVDs.
The majority of books are two week loan whilst DVDs e.t.c. are 3 day loan. Look out for spine labels which indicate that the loan period may be different e.g. overnight or 3 day loan.
- General behaviour in the Library
Although we do not have a silence rule (except in the downstairs 6th form area) it is essential that noise is kept to a minimum. Anyone constantly talking or otherwise misbehaving will be asked to leave.

The window seat in the bay window is for silent reading only.
Years 10 and 11 may use the 6th form area at lunch-time providing they are silent.
Food and drink is not permitted in any part of the Library.
Pupil Librarians
There is a team of Pupil Librarians who help at breaks and lunch-time. There are also up to four Library Prefects.
- Pupil Librarian duties
Pupil Librarians are required to attend for their duty each week. Tasks each session will vary and may include stamping and labelling new books, repairing books, returning books to and tidying the shelves or using the computer. All Pupil Librarians are expected to do all of these tasks.
- How to become a Pupil Librarian
An advert and application forms are placed on the Library notice-board whenever vacancies occur. This is usually at the start of each term. Application forms should be handed to Mrs Harris before the deadline given on the advert.
